VAT Calculator
Enter the price before VAT to find the tax and inclusive total. A blank rate uses 15%; you can enter a different rate, including zero.
How to use this tool
- Enter the amount before VAT, not an already tax-inclusive price.
- Enter the required rate or leave the rate field blank for 15%.
- Press Calculate to see the total, with VAT shown in brackets.
Adding VAT to a net price
VAT is the pre-tax price multiplied by the rate and divided by 100. Adding that amount to the starting price gives the inclusive total. This page performs that add-VAT calculation, including the 15% rate often searched for in a Saudi context.
Use one currency consistently; this is not a currency converter. A 15% default is a calculation setting, not a determination of the correct tax treatment for every transaction. Enter the rate that applies to the calculation you need.
Tax-inclusive prices need a different calculation
The current interface does not have a remove-VAT mode. Entering a price that already includes VAT will add tax again. Start with the pre-tax amount, and do not treat subtracting 15% of an inclusive total as the reverse of adding 15%.
Worked example
For a price of 1,000 before VAT at 15%, VAT is 150 and the total is 1,150 in the same currency.
When this tool is useful
- Find the inclusive total for a known pre-tax price and rate.
- Check the tax amount separately from the net price.
- Compare totals using different rate inputs.
Privacy and data processing
The browser calculates your inputs locally. The calculator does not send amounts or rates to a conversion service or analytics system.
Results display two decimal places. Invoice systems may round individual lines differently, so use the relevant rounding approach when reconciling a multi-line invoice.
Frequently asked questions
How do I calculate 15% VAT?
Enter the pre-tax amount and use a rate of 15. The calculator multiplies by 15, divides by 100 and adds the tax to the starting amount.
What happens if I leave the rate blank?
It uses 15% on the first calculation. Enter 0 explicitly when you need a zero rate.
Can this remove VAT from a gross price?
No remove-VAT mode is currently available. The value field is for a pre-tax price.
Does the result determine my tax liability?
No. It performs arithmetic on your chosen inputs and does not determine eligibility or the legally applicable rate.
